Kosui Pearls — also referred to in Japan as “Lake Pearls” — are among the highest-quality freshwater pearls, known for their exceptional luster and thick nacre.

Only about 15% of freshwater pearls achieve the brilliance required to be called Kosui Pearls, making them some of the rarest and most captivating pearls in the world.

Exquisite Luster and Shine

To be recognized as a Kosui Pearl, a pearl must meet strict standards of nacre thickness, color, shape, size, luster, and surface quality.

What sets Kosui Pearls apart is their extraordinary luster and depth of shine.

While many Akoya pearls are harvested in less than a year, resulting in thinner nacre layers, Kosui Pearls require far more time.

For example, a 7mm Kosui Pearl takes about seven years to cultivate, allowing the nacre to grow exceptionally thick and creating a profound, mirror-like radiance.

The Rare “Hollow Pearl”

Among Lake Pearls, one of the rarest types is the Hollow Pearl.

This special pearl is created through a unique technique in which the nucleus inside the pearl is carefully removed, leaving the pearl lightweight and hollow.

To maintain its structure, the nacre must be grown extremely thick over many years.

This long process results in Lake Pearls with an even more intense brilliance.

What makes the Hollow Pearl even more remarkable is its rarity: it is said to be cultivated in only three lakes worldwide.
